Babbitt is a graphic design and illustration professional with 20 years of commercial experience. She was born and raised in a small town in southeast Michigan.
She received a BFA in graphic design at Michigan State University and studied illustration at the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, with continuing graduate study at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Babbitt has worked for museums and commercial clients in the roles of graphic designer and illustrator. She is currently employed at the Exploratorium, responsible for the drawings that appear on the exhibit labels.
I enjoy the challenge of capturing a person's likeness and character with the spontaneity that watercolor offers. I keep my easel upright which requires me to work quickly, layering in light washes while I catch and control the heavier ones. I work from photograph or an in-person sitting.
